Investing in the metaverse

What’s the Metaverse? It’s a term coined in the visionary book Snowcrasher and means the Virtual Reality space that we will (inevitably) live in the future. I’m not going to talk about how good or bad this is about the society or other ethical matters. This publication focuses on investments and this is definitely THE theme you should be looking at now that it’s still early.

Non-crypto plays

There are not many plays here yet. The most obvious one is Facebook stock. Zuck specifically said the vision and target of his company is the metaverse here. Facebook also is the owner of one of the very few companies that produce VR headsets like the Oculus 2 (of which I am an owner). Once you experience life in VR it’s not difficult to see how this will develop in the future if you are not close-minded nor a tech hesitant person. Oculus has the upper hand and is further up in the race against other companies. Their device is much cheaper than competition and doesn’t even need a powerful PC to run. I bet their next iteration will truly bring VR in the masses and in the office space. They did recently launch VR for work.

Apple is getting into the AR space mostly. They will be introducing AR glasses that would for sure be of higher quality (and price!) than their competitors. But Apple stock is already sky high in my opinion.

Roblox did an IPO recently. We talked about it previously here and I still think it’s a good play especially now that the stock dipped from it’s ATH significantly. One should always be wary of stocks that are not profitable after many years but they are building a kind of Metaverse on their platform and they have 44 MILLION daily users for f*** sake!

ATARI (see crypto section also) exists as a stock too for those that don’t want to buy sketchy shitcoins.

Lastly, another niche small cap gamble (it’s a penny stock) is ARHT media which is a company producing Holograms. This is not a metaverse theme per se but related. Recently ABBA announced they will be conducting concerts using their digital holograms instead of going up the stage themselves. Does it suck? Mmmm yes and no depends on who you ask.

Crypto plays

As we have pointed out before in previous articles Sandbox is a similar concept with Roblox. There is a VR world but built on the blockchain where you can own land and using their currency (SAND) you can build games that other people play when they visit your land. The promise is good if they execute correctly and given the recent super hype of AXS (crazy!) the market cap of SAND can go much much higher.

Similarly we have talked about one of our favorite games. This comes in a combo of stock or crypto play. It’s ATARI and apart from building a casino on the blockchain they also have other stuff going on with NFTs, gaming and other projects. Don’t forget that this company was kind of dead before crypto mania so nobody knows. On the other hand the ATRI coin is pumping predictably for the last 2 years.

And ladies and gentlemen our all time favorite. DECENTRALAND and it’s corresponding currency ( MANA) is the most serious project out there. It’s really a modern Second Life (do you remember that game?) but built on the blockchain. They don’t have the VR features that they announced during their ICO in 2017 yet but it’s a fully functional world. Parties are happening, meetups and sales of NFTs. Go check it out it’s free and you need only a PC and a browser!

Somnium Spaces (CUBE) is a project that is similar to Decentraland but it’s completely in VR mode (but also browser mode) already! Less known gem and with NFT galleries and stuff going on. You can also check out this immediately.

How to play the theme

The best and safest way to play this is to buy everything and spread your bets depending on your risk tolerance. Buying ATRI and MANA is not the same as buying FB stock quite obviously. On the other hand you know what comes with risk? REWARD 🙂 Don’t forget to also buy LAND and coins in the projects you like because we don’t know yet what will be the best play long term.
